Week 17: GO PLANET!

The few earth day manis I’ve seen are awesome. I’ve seen things from land masses to swirling pieces of blue and green. I…went with the swirls.

Nothing says "save the earth!" like shiny swirls. And messy nails.

I did consider, for a minute, finding out which color represents all five Planeteers, and going that route…but that’s next week.

 

Water marbling. Love the look, HATE the clean up. I also could have sworn I cleaned up my nails fully, but meh, whatever. For the manicure, I used Wet Cement (Sally Hansen) for the grey; Blu Blaze (Nina Ultra Pro from Sally’s Beauty Supply) for the, um, blue; Magic (Pure Ice) for the brown/shimmer; and Leah (Julep) for the green.

I’m getting better at these things. Well, not updating, because I’m still horrible at that, but I meant the water marble. I still need to make two attempts for one marble, because it always seems to gel, gloop, seize, whatever, before I have a chance to actually marble, and I can’t figure out why. Oh, well, don’t have to worry about it for another, what, three months?

52 Week Challenge: Dots!

I didn’t know when or how I’d do this. The reason I didn’t do the polka dot mani was because I wanted to get a dotting tool, but never got around to getting one. I was going to not do this, but I figured “Meh, might as well use the bottom of one of my paint brushes. What’s the worst that can happen?”

My first real review!

I figured, aside from showing my poor attempts for my 52 Week Challenge, I should finally start doing some swatches and stuff. The first one is one of the polishes I got in my Julep Maven box this month: Eva.

Julep described Eva as a “raspberry creme”, and I think that pretty much nails it. It’s pinker than the image shows, almost falling in to the magenta category. I used a base coat of “Post trauma Nail Treatment” by Revlon, and a top coat of “Insta-dri” from Sally Hansen.

52 Week Challenge: Stripes

I know this is late, but I didn’t have a chance to take a photo until last night. This week’s theme was “stripes”. And, with Friday being Opening Day for my Brewers, I wanted to do something with Brewers colors, so that’s what I did.

Please excuse the ugly cuticle and the chip on my index finger. Hence, the new name of the blog.

For the base, I used Pure Ice’s “Fast Lane”. It’s a nice gold color, but I can’t wear it alone. It just doesn’t look right with my skin tones. I masked the stripes off with my French tip guides, then painted Sinful Color’s “Midnight Blue” on top of it. It’s the darkest blue I have. Even then, it’s still not the right color. But, that’s mostly me being picky. The base was Revlon’s “Post Trauma Nail Treatment”, and I used Sally Hansen’s “Insta-Dri” not only between the gold and the blue layer,  I put it on as my top coat. I like it more than SV. While it takes longer to dry, it lasts longer and isn’t as goopy. It’s almost like the more you use SV, the goopier it gets. My theory is that, with the air in the bottle, it makes it thicker.

I probably could have done the stripes better by  either cutting my guides in half, or trying to find my masking tape and cutting small strips. But I like it this way.

I’ve got some swatches to do, and then I’ll do my Easter mani. Yay! Almost back on track!

Yes, a name change already

I wanted to change the name of my blog, because “Lissa’s Nail Blog” was, well…kind of boring. I thought about it for a while. Then, I thought of something.

I bowl in a league, and almost every time I do my nails, they either break or the nail polish chips horribly when I’m done. Evidently, nails hate bowling.

Oooh…catchy!

I did end up finding my other camera, so here are some updates!  Two weekly challenge pictures, and a DIY project.

Question for everyone…

Would you prefer I just blog, or take pictures?

The issue is that I…seem to have misplaced my camera that I’ve been using for my nail blog photos. While I do have another camera, it’s rather bulky, and I’d prefer to not use it unless I have to. Hopefully I find it soon, though. :/

In the meantime, I did do a St. Patrick’s day manicure. On all but my ring fingers, I put “This Is It” from Sinful Colors, which is almost like a gold foil. Very appropriate for gold. I then put “Oscar” from Julip Maven and Sinful Color’s “Call You Later” on top of it. Both are glitters: Oscar is a simple gold glitter, while Call You Later is a green and gold glitter. (I have a fondness for that polish, as I work it every week during the Packers’ Super Bowl run in 2011.) I also put Oscar on my right ring finger, which I painted with Sinful Color’s (ironically enough) “Irish Green”. I also used Irish Green on my left ring finger, but only to paint a three leaf clover on top of a couple of coats of a generic French Manicure white. I took a pic on my phone, so if anyone wants to see it, just comment.

If I’d have known that this week was “Skittle Mani” week, I’d have taken a picture of my nails Monday night. In support of the local girls’ college basketball team, I painted my nails to match the school colors. Unfortunately, they lost, but the colors were still cute. I love Skittle Mani’s, because it’s the best way for me to show my support for my teams. I’ll have to think about what I want to do for this week, and take either a picture with my other camera, or my phone again.

52 Week Challenge – Week 9

I HATED this mani. I hated it so much, I only took one picture of it before taking it off of my nails.

Urrgh...

I’m sure it would look better on someone who has moons on their fingers that they COULD trace, or ones the same size. I go from no moon on my pinky to a pretty decent sized one on my thumb. Because of that, regardless of if I tried to freehand or tape it, it looked HORRIBLE. I don’t know how the women in the 40′s did it. I give them props.

I have a couple other posts almost ready, but I figured I wouldn’t spam the three people who read my blog.

Weekly Nail Challenge – Week 8

To be honest? I had NO idea that there was such a thing as a corset manicure. I thought we had to do one that was inspired by a corset. In my mind, there’s only one corset that REALLY matters:

So, with the colors I had, I did an omage to his shiny, rainbow-y corset.

Let's do the Time Warp again!

The polishes….oh, the polishes! Let’s see here…The base color was Sinful Colors’ “Out of This World”. On top of that, to try to get a slight glimmer, I added some of China Glaze’s “Fairy Dust”. And then, there were two layers of Wet N’ Wild’s “Party of Five Glitters”. And then…on top of THAT, was two to three layers, I don’t remember how many, of Nicole by OPI’s “Rainbow in the S-Kylie”, from the Kardashian Kollection. I like “Out of This World” as a nice silver base. “Party of Five Glitters” is just that: five types of glitters. There’s large silver hexagonical glitters, middle size green, teal, and fuschia glitter, and then small fuschia glitter.

But “Rainbow in the S-Kylie”? Oh my goodness, SO MANY SHININES! I can’t list the colors and sizes of glitters in it. I don’t own “Rainbow Connection”, but if you can’t find it, get your hands on Rainbow in the S-Kylie IMMEDIATELY. From what I can see looking at my nails, and other comparisons, they’re dead dupes.

 

 

…i am not looking forward to taking the polish off…
